It carries current from the wand connection down to the nozzle motor so the brush roll can run. Cords flex with every pass and eventually fray internally at the strain points, especially near the elbow and plug. A damaged cord causes the brush roll to cut out intermittently or stop altogether, even when the vacuum itself still runs. A new cord restores steady,
