Based on the result from these studies, the authors concluded that the hepatoprotective effects shown by fermented rooibos could be ascribed to a stabilizing effect of rooibos phenolics on the plasma membrane of hepatocytes, as well as the repair of damaged hepatic tissues probably brought about by the stimulation of hepatocellular protein synthesis and accelerated regeneration of the hepatocytes, thus suggesting that rooibos may be of benefit in the prophylactic management of oxidant-induced liver injuries
