We have tested it and found it holds stones between 5 1 2" and 8 1 2" long. Although intended primarily for water stones, it works equally well on diamond and oil stones; the stones do not know the difference. The rubber feet keep the stone from sliding around and have the added benefit of raising the stone 7 8" above the work surface, just enough to
